10/19 #5GEORGIA AT #1TEXAS PREVIEW

10/19 Texas -5 vs. Georgia, Total 57

#1 Texas hosts #5 Georgia in the marquee matchup this Saturday. The breakdown of this showdown goes beyond the previous numbers this season. The talent level of both teams is well known, so it’s time to dig deeper. Texas has not played a legitimate playoff contender yet, while Georgia has faced two in Clemson and Alabama. Texas has looked like the best team in college football all year long. However, they haven’t faced a quality offense yet, which has contributed to their impressive defensive stats, including allowing fewer than 7 points per game. We’re all familiar with Texas’ dominating offense.

Georgia, on the other hand, rarely plays for style points and has started slowly in many games. The 13-12 escape against Kentucky, the loss to Alabama, and the 31 points allowed to Mississippi State have inflated this line to 5. Many seem to forget Georgia’s talent and expect the Longhorns to roll. While I might not get involved in this game, I’m slightly leaning toward Texas due to Georgia’s injury concerns and a key quote from Kirby Smart. Kirby mentioned that this Texas defense looks similar to the dominating defense they had in the past. Even more concerning for Georgia are their offensive line issues, as they’re not at full strength.

There is talent all over the field, but no clear betting advantage. Kirby Smart has been in big games and high-pressure situations, and it feels like he will make the right moves to give the Dawgs a chance in the 4th quarter. With no strong conviction, I would take Georgia +5 if given a free play.
