11/18 NBA Preview: Golden State -4.5, L.A. Clippers, Total 225.5
The Los Angeles Clippers face a formidable challenge as they square off against the Golden State Warriors in the second game of a grueling back-to-back schedule. While the Clippers managed to edge out the Warriors in their first meeting of the season, the circumstances surrounding this game are far different.
The Warriors are riding a wave of momentum, having found their stride on both ends of the court since that earlier defeat. Stephen Curry, as always, remains the heart of the team. However, the Warriors’ success has been far from a one-man show. Golden State’s depth has been a key factor, with five players consistently contributing double-digit points per game. This balanced offensive output allows them to adapt to defensive schemes aimed at stifling Curry, making them a tougher team to defend.
Perhaps even more impressive has been Golden State’s defense. Known historically for their offensive brilliance, the Warriors have surprised opponents with their resilience and discipline on the defensive end. Anchored by Draymond Green’s defensive IQ and communication, the team has managed to shut down some of the league’s top offenses. This newfound focus on defense has not only boosted their win column but also established them as a contender capable of grinding out victories in tightly contested games.
The Clippers, on the other hand, face an uphill battle. The Clippers will struggle as they are on a back to back situation.The Clippers have not brought their defense consistently, and the back to back situation here will not fix that. Against a team like the Warriors, lapses in defensive effort or communication can quickly turn into big runs for Golden State.
Additionally, the Clippers’ bench depth has been a point of concern. While the starters are capable of competing at a high level, the second unit has often failed to maintain the momentum. In contrast, Golden State’s bench has been a reliable source of energy and productivity. This disparity could play a significant role, especially as the game wears on and fatigue sets in for LA. Look for Golden State to pull away and cover the 4.5
